Abstract

Pemphigus vegetans (Pveg) is a rare (<5 %) variant of pemphigus vulgaris clinically characterized by chronic vegetating erosions. These affect primarily the intertriginous areas. Historically, two forms were described, the Hallopeau type and the Neumann type. Although clinical features may be distinctive, overlaps between these two types and with pemphigus vulgaris exist. It is therefore questionable to consider Pveg as a distinct entity but rather a clinical phenotype observed within the pemphigus vulgaris spectrum. Treatment options are essentially based on the guidelines proposed for pemphigus as well as case reports.
