Abstract

Complementary and alternative medicine is very popular and plays also an important role for patient care in family practice. Neural therapy (therapeutic injection with local anesthetics), phytotherapy, acupuncture, manual medicine and homeopathy are the most commonly used methods in German family practices. Using complementary and alternative medicine the patient-practitioner- relationship, personal values and preferences on patient and practitioner side play an important role. These are integral interfaces with the field of family medicine. In 2009 the "Arbeitsgruppe Komplementärmedizin (AG KompMed)" was established within the DEGAM to focus complementary and alternative medicine more on the needs of general practice including the fields of education, research and health care. The AG KompMed wants to tie in the work of the existing DEGAM-sections and aims for a critical discourse and subsequent initiatives.
