Abstract
We report on a 10-year-old boy who was admitted to our hospital suffering from unconsciousness and respiratory depression after falling off his bicycle. The cause of his symptoms was later identified as opioid intoxication due to two fentanyl transdermal patches. These patches had been applied by his mother as a first aid measure on two skin abrasions following the bicycle fall. Because of their easy application and dosing, fentanyl transdermal patches represent a considerable risk of opioid intoxication - especially for children.
