Abstract
In subgroups of patients with obesity an increased risk for depressive disorders has been identified. The risk is particularly high in obese patients who also suffer from binge-eating disorder, metabolic syndrome or diabetes mellitus. Experimental and clinical studies support the hypothesis of a neurobiological interaction between body compositions, central control of eating behavior and metabolism and systems involved in the regulation of mood.
