Abstract
Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a frequent psychiatric disease, with neurobiological and psychological factors contributing to its genesis. The drugs of choice in somatic treatment of obsessive-compulsive patients are serotonin reuptake inhibitors, whereas behaviour therapy is the preferred psychotherapeutic approach. A combination of behaviour therapy with serotonin reuptake inhibitors is indicated in case of predominance of obsessions and if depressions are present. Following successful combined treatment, behaviour therapy appears to exert an additional protective effect against relapse.
