Abstract

HoloLens is an augmented reality (AR) device that augments the real world with virtual content. A third-person perspec- tive facilitates the understanding of an AR experience since it shows the HoloLens user in the real world interacting with the virtual objects. Microsoft provides the components to implement this feature with a Canon camera. In this study, a HoloLens mount was redesigned to rigidly attach the HoloLens with a GoPro camera (lower price compared to the Canon camera), providing a very good stabilization of the assembly. In addition, this study describes the development of an AR application for HoloLens that displays valuable patient information for endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) procedures (namely, computed tomography images, three-dimensional models of the skin, bones and aorta, and a report). HoloLens and this AR application have the potential for creating a more suitable working environment for the EVAR surgical team.
