Abstract
Shock wave therapy is an interesting approach for dermal burns and for cellulitis, with few adverse effects. Superficial dermal (degree 2a) burns do heal three days quicker after one session of shock wave therapy (level of evidence: lb), and so do extraction areas of split skin grafts. (level of evidence: lb). Encouraging cohort studies demonstrate an improvement of cellulitis after six to eight sessions of shock wave therapy. An antifibrotic effect, a reduction of lymphedema or/and an activation of stem cells following a mechanotransduction of the shock wave are possibly among the basis of these mechanisms.
