Abstract
Intestinal pathobionts that escape into the periphery can cause serious morbidity and death. In this issue of Immunity, Hasegawa etal. (2014) show that the host's protective measures against such events include interleukin-22-driven systemic elimination of pathobionts via complement regulation.
