Abstract
Playing live music on the Internet is very demanding in terms of delay, loss or jitter and hence requires extremely reliable network conditions. Jitter is the most problematic factor because it has a direct inuence on the required network buffer sizes for receiving low delay audio streams. Therefore measuring the amount of jitter is a very complex task due to the multi-hop architecture of the Internet. So far it has been impossible to know at which hop these delay variances appear. The authors propose a solution that is able to generate an audible impression of the jitter problem for each hop.
