Abstract
Remote control of networked medical devices in service-oriented medical device architectures must ensure that the patient safety is not compromised. Therefore, the communication between medical devices has to be single fault safe. Different standardized protocols are described and analyzed regarding their suitability to fulfill this requirement. Moreover, a new non-standardized protocol is presented that overcomes the drawback of the standardized protocols and allows a dual channel transmission using one physical IP-based transmission medium.
